Table of Contents in merge doc

Margaret

I'm using Word 2000 and can't get table of contents to update on my form letters. - After updating TOC, instead of displaying page numbers my form letter display the following error message: Error! Bookmark not defined.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

Hi Margaret,

This comes about as a result of many types of fields not surviving the
mailmerge process. If the data that is being inserted into the document via
the mailmerge is not like to change the page numbering, you could "unlink"
the table of contents prior to performing the merge by selecting it and then
pressing Ctrl+Shift+F9. That will convert it into normal text.

If the data inserted by the mailmerge will change the page numbering, you
have a bit more of a problem as you would have to insert the table of
contents separately into each "document" created by the mailmerge.

It should be possible to write a macro to do this.

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested. Unsolicited questions forwarded
directly to me will only be answered on a paid consulting basis.

Hope this helps
