table of contents

One of the headings in my documents starts with a
superscript character. When a table of contents is
created, the numbering for that particular heading comes
out in superscript instead of regular size font. Does
anyone know how to fix it??? Thanks

Probably the Heading and/or the ToC styles are set to Automatically Update.
A feature that some whig at Microsoft left enabled by default on levels from
ToC 4 to ToC 9 (if I remember correctly).

Also make sure that the paragraph mark is not formatted as superscript, as
that will affect the numbering.
