Word 2004 for the Mac

I have a book length document with a table of contents.

I want to include the complete toc with only a few chapters in a new
document I want to send out - not the whole manuscript.

When I tried this, the deleted chapters were automatically removed from the
toc.

Is there a way around this?

Thanks for your help.

Did you try selecting & copying the TOC, then in the other doc using
Edit>Paste Special>Styled Text? You may have to adjust the tabs/formatting a
bit and the result will not update (as it isn't a field) but it should suit
the purpose described.

I copied the TOC and then - edit paste (no special) - and then clicked
cancel to update fields message, and that worked - not elegant but usable.

Thanks for the lead.

Hi Eden:

I suggest that you do it again with Edit>Paste Special... :)

CyberTaz told you to do it that way for a very specific reason: the way you
have done it, you have pasted a live TOC field into the document. As soon
as your recipients open the document, that field will update automatically
and the deleted chapters will be removed. I suspect you may conclude that
this is neither elegant or useable :)

Pasting as Styled Text provides a perfectly-formatted TOC without the field
codes, so it doesn't update.

The other way to do it is to select the TOC and Command + Shift + F9 to
unlink it, Copy it, then paste normally. That pastes the formatted TOC
without its fields. For heavens sake remember NOT to save the original,
otherwise you will remove the TOC from it too :)

Cheers

Yes, I realized this when the TOC stayed live with errors for pages numbers.

I did paste the pages as images - but your suggestion for unlinking them is
a lot less tedious, and now workable.

Thanks to you both.
