I am creating a Word 2003 template (.dot) file and I am using the
"Protect Document" feature to limit the formatting available. I am only
using the "Limit Formatting to a Selection of Styles" feature in the
"Protect Document" pane -- I am not using the "Editing Restrictions"
feature.
One of the styles that is allowed when the document is protected is the
"Table" style -- this is a style I created that is based on the
built-in "Table Normal" style. My "Table" style has a header row with a
gray background and bold blue text. This works fine when the document
is unprotected (i.e. I can go to a blank line, select the "Table" style
and choose the number of columns and rows and click OK and the table is
inserted with all the correct formatting -- I can then type the
headings and they are correctly formatted, e.g. bold and blue.)
However, when I protect the document and then select the "Table" style
the shading of the header row is corret (it's gray), but when I type in
the header row, it's the same as the "Normal" style -- as a matter of
fact the style that's displayed is "Normal+". If I select it and apply
"Default Paragraph Font" then it has the correct formatting assigned to
it via the "Table" style.
I've tried deleting my "Table" style and recreating it. I've tried
selecting the "Allow AutoFormat to override formatting restrictions"
checkbox in the "Formatting Restrictions" dialog box (from the
"Settings..." link in the "Protect Document pane).
Any idea how to make this "just work?" I know I can make a new bold and
blue "Table Heading" style and apply the correct formatting that way,
but I am trying to make this template for a rather larger user base and
I want to make it as simple as possible.
Sorry for the long post.
Regards
