Tables and Indexes

Can anyone explain why my concordance list does not mark the actual words, so
that when I generate my index it only comes out with pages numbers?

Yes, several times. But when I look through my document I notice that the
words I'm trying to index are not within the XE field codes; I get {XE "#"},
# being the page. Marking them individually works, but this is a long
document. What I'm not too sure about is the concordance file, itself. I
created a table, two colums, separate row for each entry. The intended index
word on the left side and the page number on the right side, and saved it.
Is this correct?

As far as I can tell I've followed them to a tee...perhaps you can explain
where I went wrong....?

The two-column table is the only thing you did right. The word
on the left side is the word you want to search the text for, and
to create an XE field for. The word on the right side is the way
you want the word on the left side to appear in the index. For
example, if you want the words "index" and "indices" in the text
to both appear as "index" in the index, then you would put
"index" on the left side and "index" on the right side, and you
would put "indices" on the left side and "index" on the right
side. You should not put the page numbers on the right side,
because Word will generate the page numbers automatically.

Thanks so much. I didn't understand what the second column info was supposed
to be. Appreciate it.
