tables in Word '97

Help please. I am running Microsoft Word '97 in Windows
ME. Up to a week ago everything was fine, but now all my
Word documents that had tables, have lost all the
attributes.

The text is in tact, but all the columns and rows of my
tables have simply disappeared. More over any attempt to
rebuild these tables, or to create tables in new Word
documents fail.

Any ideas on what is going on here ? Have I tweeked
something in Word or have I picked up some kind of weird
virus that attacks just table attributes in Word
documents ?

Any thing any one can suggest would be appreciated.

In the File Open dialog, make sure that "Files of type" is set to "Word
Documents" or "All Word Documents" and not "Recover Text from Any File."
