Tables in Word X

I posted this problem some months ago but received no useful reply.

I am running OSX 10.2 on a 17 inch flat screen 800 MHz iMac G4 with 512 Mb
of RAM.

My problem is with Word X (Service Release 1).

I do a lot of work with tables. Whenever I move text from one cell to
another, even in the simplest of tables with two or three rows and columns,
the entire table re-draws itself, taking a good second to do so. This is
highly irritating. It did not happen with Word 98 under OS 9.2 and does not
occur with Word for Windows XP, which I also use frequently on a laptop
(alas!). I have already spent money increasing my iMac¹s memory, to no
avail.

The phenomenon does not occur with Excel X.

Has anyone else noticed this problem? Is it my Mac or is there a problem
with Word?

Hi Noel & Cathy,

I guess if no one is responding then the problem does not seem to affect
anyone who has come up with a solution.

I'll sheepishly suggest some things to try. First is to run Disk Utility
First Aid and repair permissions. It speeds up other things. There's no
reason why it should fix this, but who knows? It might. It doesn't take
long and is free so start there.

Next, try trashing Word's preferences. Do this with all office applications
closed. Empty the trash before opening Word (Word will use the preferences
in the trash in OSX if it finds them there).

Hi, Jim,

I've tried trashing preferences and running First Aid, but this has not
worked.

Any more ideas?
