Tables / paragraph mark?

V

Vijay J.

I have a body-text style with the first line of the
paragraph indented. I insert tables within the body-text
paragraphs. When I insert a table, and continue writing
the body text after (i.e. outside) the table, I want the
paragraph to be continued (unless specifically desired
otherwise). However, I am getting the first line after
the table indented, i.e. a new body-text paragraph is
started. This happens even if, before inserting the table
where I am last typing, I don't hit enter key and simply
insert the table. Simply inserting the table at my last
curson position without pressing enter key still inserts
the table in the desired way (i.e. on a new line), but
still makes a paragraph mark on the last sentence before
table. How can this be avoided?

My second query is that I insert a table in a paragraph
somewhere midway on the page length. The table contents
are such that the table fill the whole page length, and I
have selected KeepLinesTogether and KeepWithNext, so that
the table moves to the next page and appears on the full
page, leaving a portion of the previous page blank.
However, the text typed after the table doesn't move up
to ahead of the table to fill in the empty space? Am I
doing something wrong? Are there any more control over
the position of table which can fix this?
Thanks

In answer to your first question, an inline table functions as a large
paragraph, so it is going to split your text paragraph. The only workaround
is to apply an unindented style to the following paragraph. As for the
second, if you wrap the table (set wrapping to Around on the Table tab of
Table properties), you will get the behavior you want; be aware, though,
that a wrapped table (or a table in a frame or text box, which would
accomplish the same thing) cannot exceed one page in Word 2000.

Thankyou for the reply. Do I have to apply an unindented
style to the paragraph following the table manually? Or
can I modify the table style so the the next paragraph is
always the desired unindented paragraph? If so, how can I
modify the Style of a table?

Word 2000 doesn't have table styles, but even if it did, table styles don't
have a "Style for following paragraph." So, yes, you have to apply it
manually.
