Hi,

I am having trouble using a Targus USB keypad with Excel. It works fine
with Word, however when I use it to input numbers in Excel, the numbers
promptly disappear. Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there a
workaround for this?

Thx,
Jey

I am having the same problems as well. I've tried different keypads,
but the same issue. The keypads work fine on my IBM ThinkPad but not in
Excel on the PowerBook.

I've been trying different key combos. Using the Calculator in Excel v.
X (on the formula bar), I see that every time I press a key on the
external USB numeric keypad, the clear key is pressed twice, then the
number itself, then the clear key is pressed twice again. That's why no
numbers get entered into Excel although they do get entered in other
apps and on the web. I know posters and MVPs have said this is not a
programming error, however, it sure seems like one. I've toggled every
preference in Excel and on the keyboard with the same results.

From what I could read about another model (iKeypad), this is some kind of a
synchronization issue between some recent Mac OS X applications (obviously
including Excel, but Adobe CS products and the Mac OS Calculator seem to be
concerned as well). I guess this will apply to any USB Keypad. There is no
patch that I could find for this issue.

Do you know if it would also apply to a full external USB keyboard (not
just numeric). Also, could a Bluetooth numeric keypad avoid the issue?
Or is it a software issue that can't be skirted around until patched?

Merci.

I have just bought the same keypad, and have the same problem: when you
press a key, the keypad returns 2 key events, and one of these is a
DELETE character. Word is unfazed by that, but Excel interprets literaly
this extra character and deletes your number.

In order to correct that, I have downloaded uControl source code and added
some code in order to filter those extra DELETE characters.

Now my Targus Keypad seems to work correctly with Excel and does not loss
any number.

If you are interested I can send you an install package you can test, and
see if that also correct your problem.
