I've noticed a couple of oddities during the last week or so as we've
implemented Project Server in the office here, and I was hoping
someone could shed some light on the topic, as I didn't turn up much
help on Google Groups (whose new beta interface is terrible, IMHO).
When a couple of resources enter time on certain tasks on a couple of
projects, and I update the Project Files with the information from the
server, Project reassigns the actuals to the Summary Task, and then
reassigns the resources to those summary tasks, which appear on their
timesheet as "Phase 1 (summary)" (for example) where before, the
"Design" task existed and had actuals.
This makes planning somewhat difficult. Is there something I can do
to prevent this behavior? The resources are adding their times to
tasks, and are not assigned to summary tasks at all, until I click
update and Project reassigns them.
The other unusual problem I encountered involves a summary task
leaving its nest. On Project Professional, I have something that
looks like this (imagine the periods are invisible indents!):
- eMarketing
..- Newsletter A
...- Newsletter A 12/04 Newsletter
...- Newsletter A 01/05 Newsletter
...- Newsletter A 02/05 Newsletter
..- Newsletter B
...- Newsletter B 12/04 Newsletter
...- Newsletter B 01/05 Newsletter
...- Newsletter B 02/05 Newsletter
Looks great. But when a resource views it on Project Web Access, the
sub-sub-task of "Newsletter A 01/05 Newsletter" appears completely out
of order, as it's own task, on the same level as "eMarketing." Not a
huge problem, but kind of annoying. Any ideas?
