Task Assignments happening incorrectly....

Hi,

We have project server 2003 and microsoft project 2003 professional.
One of my resources(X) tells me that he has received mail regarding
assignment of some tasks that actually belong to someone else(Y).

I opened the plan in client and found that in the project plan,the task is
assigned to Y and not X.

Any idea what could be wrong? Why X is getting email regarding assignment of
tasks that do not belong to him?

Any help is greatly appreciated
