Task baseline causes loss of Earned Values

Task baselining causes loss of BCWS information. I've
checked the status date to make sure it is today's date
and it is. This is a really bad issue. What's the point
of earned value if you can't rely on the calcs? Sure, you
could never ever baseline a new task - but not realistic
given our market. Any help would be appreciated. If I
can't do this comparison, is there any way to determine
what percentage complete you should be at the phase level
versus where you actually are (i.e. % complete versus the
status line denoting today's date on the gantt)?

Thanks,
Tammy

My status date is today's date.

Hello Tammy,
Where is your Status date ? ( Project / Project information...)
If you move backward your Status date to the very
beginning of your project, the BCWS, which is
calculed in connection with the status date, will go back to zero.

Hope this help,

I made up a simple test and got good EV values. Then, I added a task and
baselined the task. Except for the fact that BCWS did not roll up with the
new info ( I can force this), nothing went to zero.

To force the BCWS rollup, filter for summary tasks, select all, and set the
baseline for selected tasks.. Try this out on a copy to see if this works
for you.

Percentage complete generally means Duration % C unless you mean Work %C or
perhaps you mean Physical %C (only in 2002 and just for EV = %P * BCWS.
Forget it, it is meaningless especially when you roll it up. After all, at
the phase level, some tasks may need one type of %C while others need
another. Meaningless.

EVM however, is meaningful.

Hi,

Baseline information is a critical part of earned value calculations. So, if
you save the baseline for new tasks, you will change the earned value
calculations. Unless you mean something different by baselining?

Project 2002 now has 10 extra baselines. So, you can save to Baseline 1-10
leaving the original baseline untouched. Under Tools, Options, click the
Calculation tab then click the Earned Value button. Here you can change
which of the baselines is used for earned value calculations. Using the new
baselines you could then save extra baselines for earned value based on
latest tasks, or against the original baseline.
