Task Calenders

I built a schedule using the Project Calender. I used fixed work method.
When I assigned a certain task to a special task calender that was 24-hours
per day the duration did not change. I would have expected for example a
48-hour fixed work activity to take 2 calendars to complete under the special
task calender. In summary when I assign calenders there is no change in
start and finish dates. What am I doing wrong?

Hello BMorngah,

Are there resource assigned to the task? If so, you'll need to select
the option "scheduling ignores resource calendar." The finish date of
the task should change, however the value in the duration field will
not.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

I don't have an answer because I am experiencing a similar problem myself.
My project calendar is the standard 5 work days per week calendar, but I have
some tasks that should be calculated on calendar days rather than business
days. I've assigned the 24-hour calendar to those tasks, but end date is not
being calculated correctly. For example, when I enter a duration of 60 days,
the calcultated end date comes out as about 20 calendar days from the start
date. There are no other constraints associated with these tasks as far as I
can tell. I've tried everything I can think of and can't get a correct
calculation for these tasks.

Hello treediddy,

What setting are you using in Tools > Options, Calendar tab --
specifically what is your hours per day and hours per week? I assume 8
hour per day.

When you enter a duration of 60 days to Project that means 60 eight hour
periods -- or 480 working hours. A 24-hour calendar allows 24 hours per
day so the 480 hours only takes 20 calendar days.

Please see FAQ # 5 "Default Working hours" at http://project.mvps.org

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
