Task delegation problem in project server

H

HUK

Hi,

I am using project server 2003 with team member rights and trying to
delegate a task to another team member. But I am not been able to do so
and get the following error message when I press the Delegate task
button.

(There are no resources available to delegate tasks.

You either do not have permissions to see the assignments of any
resources or there are currently no resources in the Project Server
database other than your account. Contact your server administrator.)

I have checked global permissions for my user and I have the rights to
delegate tasks. Please advise
Thanks in advance,
HUK

I imagine that you are using an RBS and that your category permissions are
probably not enabling you to see any other resources in the resource pool.
Can you verify whether you are using an RBS? This would be Enterprise
Resource Outline Code 30 in the enterprise global.

Can you also verify whether the user is seeing any resources in the Resource
Center when they navigate to the Resource tab in PWA?

You can solve this little problem by doing the following:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions
2. Click Admin - Manage security
3. Select the My Tasks category and click the Modify Category button
4. In the Resources section, select the "All current and future resources
in the Project Server database" option
5. Click the Save Changes button

Performing the above steps will allow a team member to delegate a task to
any resource in the Enterprise Resource Pool. Hope this helps.

I've done this and still no dice. In fact, I've granted the user admin privs
and it still won't work for him. Delegation works for me however and the
only difference is that I've got admin rights on the front end and on the
server (I administer the front end and IT does the backend). Do you know of
a way to synch this or specific rights needed for the server before users can
use delegation? Is there an assign resources right that needs to be turned
on in the backend as well?

Thanks.

By chance, have you set any permissions for any Groups in PWA to Deny? This
could be the source of your problem. Please examine each Group, and in each
Group select the Categories that belong to the Group. When you select each
Category in the Group, the Permissions grid will show you the permissions
for the overlap betwee the Group and the Category. If you have set any
permission to Deny, I recommend you set the permission to Not Allowed
instead (neither Allow or Deny is checked). Let us know what you find.

Turned out to be an oversight. I had set the admin privs without following
through (but thinking I had) on your advice earlier about modifying security
to include all resources (Resources: Select the resources whose information
can/cannot be viewed by users in this category - set to All current and
future resources in the Project Server database)

So to get this working I set security to include all resources, gave the
delegate Global permission, as well as 'assign resources' and 'see resource
assignments in assignment views'. Do you see any overlap here? I've got it
working now...and as always thanks for looking at this.
