Task Dependencies

Hi All,

I have a project where my procurement depends on the usage
of a material in the future e.g. I have to procure 4 weeks
before the materials is required.

In this respect, if the material usage is put back 4
weeks, then I want the procurement to also move 4 weeks
(retaining the 4 weeks lead-time). However, because the
procurement tasks occurs before it remains in the same
timescale and the procurement lead-time becomes 8 weeks
(does this make sense?)

If so, could any of the users in the NG assist me to
create the link to ensure my predecessor moves according
to my successor task?

TIA - H

Hi,

Make a link from usage to procurement
Foor Procurement, in Task Information, Predecessors, change the link type to
Start to Finish and the Lag time to -20 days.
That positions the procurement on th right date.

However, the link is one way, if the procurement task starts later than
foreseen it does not modify the usage's start.

Hi Jan

Thanks for taking the time to respond - I appreciate it.

Unfortunately, I cannot try this as I'm at home.
However, I'll give it go tomorrow morning and report back.

Thanks again,
Hardip

Hi Jan

Having thought about it I think I understand what you
mean.

Task 1: Procurement
Task 2: Material Usage.

In this example I would make task 1 dependent on task 2.
In the dependencies of task 1 I would input 2 and then
create the 20 day lag. Is this what you mean?

Thanks again,
Hardip
