Task Duration vs time to get it done

I have 4 individual (non related) tasks that all have to be done in a
week. Each task takes a day to complete. How do I schedule and
therefore represent graphically that it only takes a day to do, but you
have a week to do it?

Hello tblock,

There are a couple of approaches:

Set each of the task as fixed duration with a 5 day duration.
Assign the resource and specify 8 hours of work. Project will
calculate the appropriate assignment unit (20%) and spread the 8
hours of work out over 5 days. The resource will be allocated at
80% (4 tasks at 20%).

The other option is to set the tasks as 1 day duration with 8 hours
of work with a resource assigned at 100%. If the resource is
assigned to all 4 tasks at 100%, the resource will be overallocated.
You can then use the resource leveling command to spread the tasks
out. The resource will be allocated at 100% and the tasks will
spread over 4 days.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

"Duration" is the time it takes to do the task, not the window of
opportunity in which to get it done. You have 4 one-day tasks, each of
which has a deadline of Friday. As Julie suggests, enter them as 4 unlinked
1-day tasks, assign the resource to them at 100%, and resource level to
establish the sequencing.
