Task Level Basline Totals Not Equal to Resource Baseline Totals

I noticed that my total baseline hours from a Task Usage perspective
is not the same total when I look at the baselines in a resource
view. Getting a project total baseline on a task view is easy. I
then go to a Resource usage view, collapse everything down to just
the
resource names, and then add up the total baseline numbers shown for
each resource. The numbers did not balance. So I opened up each
resource on the resource view and found that some of the baseline
numbers on the tasks under the resource name did not roll-up to the
baseline number at the resource total. Why? Here's what I am seeing
on a Resource view, showing baseline work:

RESOURCE NAME, baseline total
task 1, baseline for task 1
task 2, baseline for task 2
task 3, baseline for task 3

However the sum of the baselines for tasks 1,2,3 do not add up to the
baseline total for that person. In almost all cases, the sum of the
baselines for tasks 1,2,3 is LESS than the baseline total at the
resource line

What might I be doing to get this out of balance?

Richard, I am seeing the same problem in Project Pro 2003 SP2, but I
only see the problem after I add or delete tasks, select the affected
area of the project, and re-save the baseline (using selected tasks
and roll up to summary tasks). The summary line for the resource
(Resource Usage) never gets updated with the new baseline totals, but
the new baseline data is correctly shown for each task assigned to the
resource. Is this a known bug in Pro 2003?

Any information on this would be most helpful.

Thanks. Yes, we're using MS Project 2003 Pro and Server. Because we are
doing many small iterations, we re-plan and do a selective baseline for the
next iteration. That preserves the previous information. I did a few tests
and you are RIGHT ON... this is exactly what is happening. At a task
level, the selective baseline process works so well. It takes the new
infomration and rolls it up to all task levels just fine However, that new
roll-up does not happen at the resource side. That.. to me.. is a data
integrity issue. ..
