task max resource work hours

i have a resource who is available from 8 - 12am and 1 - 5pm, a total of
8 hours per day.
when i assign a task to this resource of 8h work the start and finish
dates differ 1 day (start on wednesday, finish on thursday). Why does
the task not start and finish on wednesday?

i have tried several work hours, but only at 7.5h and lower the task
starts and finishes on the same day.

my resouce availabilty units is set to 100%

Have you looked in the Task Usage view? That will show you where the
work lies. Typically this problem is caused because the work isn't
scheduled to start at 08:00 so it necessarily spans two days.

You may also want to look at the options under Tools/Options/Calendar as
this sets the default start and end time.

How are you entering the amount of work? Do you enter 8 hours or 1 day?
The conversion factors under Tools/Options/Calendar which define the
number of hours per day, the number of days per month etc also need to
be consistent with your calendar.
