Task - Multi resource

Simple scenario:-
I have one task which is a 7 day workshop. I have two resources.
Resource 1 (£50/day) will be involved for the first 5 days & the second
resource (£30/day) will be the last 2 days.
How can I enter this in days for each resource. I don't want to be
entering 5/7's for res 1 and 2/7's as a percentage as this isn'#t
accurate for costing calculations. Can this be done and if so what is
the task type?

Thanks for any help.

Good question! To address this scheduling need requires a couple of tricks
that only the most experienced users know. Here's how to handle your
scheduling situation:

1. In the Gantt Chart view, add the task to your task sheet, but leave the
Duration value at the default of 1 day.

2. Click Window - Split.

3. In the bottom pane (Task Form), add Resource 1 and Resource 2 and set
the Units value to 100% Units for each of them (DO NOT click the OK button
yet).

4. In the bottom pane, enter 40 hours of Work for Resource 1 and 16 hours
of Work for Resource 2, and now click the OK button.

The software will calculate a Duration of 5 days, but we're not done yet.

5. Right-click anywhere in the Task Form and choose "Resource Schedule" on
the shortcut menu.

6. In the Task Form for Resource 2, set the Start field value to the date
that represents the 6th work day of the task and click the OK button.

The software will now show a Duration of 7 days. Resource 1 works full-time
for the first 5 days and then Resource 2 works full-time for the last two
days. Hope this helps.

Assuming the resources are alrady assigned, go to the Task Usage View
(View/Task Usage). On the right side of the screen, manually adjust the hours
assigned for each resource.

Hello,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project General Questions newsgroup.

One way to do it would be:
1.- Set up the task type as non-effort driven Fixed duration.
2.- Assign both resources to the task.
3.- Select Task usage view .
4.- Set up the timescale to show days (1 count) in the bottom tier.
5.- Now zero-out the hours of day 6 and 7 for res1.
6.- Zero-out the working hours from day 1 thru 5 for res2.

Assuming that you have an 8 hour/day calendar, your resources should now be
working a total of 56 hrs (40 for res1 and 16 for res2) and a total cost of
£2.480.

I hope this can be useful. Please let us know how you get along with it.

Best regards,

Just a note FYI - instead of entering the exact start date for the second
resource, it could be simpler to just enter a 2 day start delay (Delay
column of the Resource Schedule view) for him. That way you don't need to
manually edit the days.

Thanks for all the help. This worked really well and produced accurate
costs for the whole project across all resources.
