Task Name Format

When I create a new project the name in the task cell does NOT have WBS
information with it. Some projects have task names that reflect the WBS
number like "3.1 Do" This instead of just plain "Do This". I am not referring
to an additional WBS column, but in the task name column itself. I have tried
and tried to find out where this formatting is coming from, but have failed
miserably. If anyone could tell me, I would very much appreciate it.

Hi Gary,
Try Tools --> Options, View tab. Turn on "Show Outline Number."

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Please don't feel stupid. Not terribly intuitive to call it outline numbers!
;-)

Let us know if we can help again.
Best regards,

Gary,
Julie's suggestion works fine but don't be misled. You asked for a WBS
prefix. Turning on the option will give you an outline number prefix.
The WBS and outline number are not the same thing although they may show
the same value. If you truly want the WBS prefixed onto the Task Name,
you will either need to use a custom field with a formula to concatenate
the WBS and Task Name text strings and then rename the custom field as
"Task Name", or, use a simple VBA macro to modify the normal Task Name
field.
