Task reminders not appearing

For some unexplained reason my task/calendar reminders are all of a sudden
not popping up.
I've gone to Tools/Options/Other/Advanced Options/Reminder Options and the
appropriate boxes are selected.
There must be some quirky thing that has been selected or deselected that is
preventing the task reminders from coming up. Help!
