Task Start Date Deadline

Hi,
Is there a way to set a Start date deadline? (I know you can set a finish
date deadline).

I want to avoid using constraints yet have a warning indicator showing that
task start date delayed...

No. The Start No later than constraint is the only workaround.

Why not set a milestone prior to the task and set a deadline on that?

But another way of looking at it, does it really matter when a task starts
as long as it finishes on time?
