Does anyone know the purpose of each task type: Fixed
Duration, Fixed Work & Fixed Units. What are each used
for and why?

Knowing this is at the heart of effectively knowing how to use Microsoft
Project. Well done on finding a need to learn this.

Suggest the first place you look would be in Project's Help File. See
the Glossary in the Reference Section. All these are defined in the F
section. I could re-word or copy/paste here ... or even give you my own
definition ... but I think it best you look in (and discover) the Help
and resources in Project at your disposal for learning it.

Not exactly sure which posting you are referring to. Steve has written
eloquently on this topic many times. I found one article by searching
Google for the words "purpose each task type house" in the Newsgroups:
microsoft.public.project* and found
