task updated with a percentage completed

Hello

I have a task that lasts 5 days, from Monday to Friday, 1 resource allocated
to it, for 8 hours a day, with a total of hours of 40.

On Wednesday, I update the percentage field by 20% as the resource has only
been able to work 8 hours on this task. In my logic 40 hours minus 20% leaves
with 32 hours. These 32 hours would then plotted across the remaining
duration of the task.

How does MS Project resolve this situation?

Any help would be much appreciated
Many thanks

You need to change the resource allocation units so the remaining work can be
completed within the remaining duration.

Hi Trevor

Many thanks for such a comprehensive reply!
I need to read your reply through, digest and perhaps get back to you, if I
may...

In the meantime, we need to export some of the data from MS Project to a
Resource Utilisation Tool to manipulate the data for mgt info reporting. Is
there anywhere in MS Project where I can lift the date of when the % complete
is applied?

Many thanks - this is really helpful.

Hi Trevor

Apologies for the confusion. I understand where we are going wrong, and we
need to change the way we are using Project, but this will take a little
while.

In the meantime, we are still using '% complete' (the one you get in the
split screen of the Gantt and from your explanation I understand is the %
related to duration) and I need to export the date at which point this % is
applied.

Now I have hopefully clarified, do you think your suggestion of the Status
Date below still apply in this case?

Many thanks again

Hi Trevor

Thanks, unfortunately this would not work as we all update our plans at
different stages and send the data to the tool at different times. With this
in mind, could I still use the 'status date' field

Many thanks again
