task updates 2003 vs 2007

how do accepts of task updates works in 2007? does it still bring up
msproject professional automatically, apply the update and save??? or is this
discontinued???
i also do not see my custom field updates in task summary view in project
view...any help would be much appreciated...

2007 actually includes the scheduling engine in the server. When you accept
updates, the server will check out the project apply the updates, then check
the project back in. This allows the preview function to work.

In 2003, the file opened on the desktop before updates were applied.

What are you observing with the task custom field updates? Have you set
those custom fields to roll up to the summary level and republished the
project?

dear andrew, thank for the reply. we have some enterprise custom fields [task
level] that in 2003 we use to publish for update by team members keeping them
at task level and letting the resource update (professional 2003 let you
select that in a check box). in 2007 these fields are created in PWA and when
a resource updates them, it acuallty updates the assignment version of the
field. i dont see any option to allow all resources to update the [task]
level custom field directly... hence we see the fields getting updated in my
tasks but not in project center task summary views... how do i do this...

in 2007, you're limited to updating the assignment level for custom fields
in My Tasks, correct. The only workaround to that is to use VBA script in
the project plans to push assignment level data up to the task level. If
you post that question in the Developer group, I am sure someone can provide
the code to accomplish this.
