Task Updates 2007

We're just planning how to update tasks. We have decided not to do the 2 step
timesheets and tasks update, becuase it's more than we want, or need to take
on.
We have about 700 resources, of which half are doing maintenance type
activities. We've already got about 300 resources who work on project work,
assigned to tasks, and we're piloting 1 team entering actuals hours thru Web
Access, with the Project manager approving them.

For maintenance we plan to setup ongoing type tasks for those resources to
update. That way we can still capture overall orgnazational metrics. Here's
my question is there any way to have someone assigned as a status manager,
that doesn't have Project Pro? Currently we have about 40 maintenance
resource managers who would only be using Pro to setup high level plans, to
approve time for their resoucrces. They could use Web Access Approval. I
know you can't change the status manager to anone but the person opening the
plan. Is there another method?

Thanks for confirming it. Our executives are balking at paying $800 a pop for
maintenance managers. I wanted to make sure there wasn't an out of box
alternative.

I do have one other realted question. Since we're just implementing task
updates, is the the same type of surrogate method, that they have in
Timesheet? Our project managers are usually under the gun weekly not to have
schedule slippage. If resource are out, and didn't update thier time, they
want to be able to update their tasks.

thanks for your help

Kerry:

The assignment owner field for each assignment determines who gets the task
for updating on their My Tasks page. You can use this feature to direct
people who are not the actual resource on the task to do the updating.
