Task Updates do not update the project plan

We have been using Project 2007 and the PWA for several months and just today we had tasks which were submitted, approved by the PM but they do not show up in the project plan. We look in the logs and there are three projects which have the message 'Skipped for Optimization' beside them. We are at a loss and want to know if there is any way to recover the tasks updates. When you go into the schedule now, there are no pending updates and the updates to the previously accepted tasks are no longer there.
