TaskPad, version 2003: Sorting problem when grouped by category

I've just upgraded from Outlook 2000 to 2003.

In 2000, I used TaskPad and had it set to group by categories and then sort
by subject. (The categories are very important to how and where I work.) When
I clicked on the TaskPad field bar (the one with the TaskPad name and either
an up arrow or a down arrow), the subject titles of my tasks got resorted
from Z-A or A-Z dependng on how they were sorted before, but (and this is the
main issue here) the category grouping remained intact.

In 2003, when I click on the TaskPad title, (sometimes accidentally! -- Hey!
I'm trying to learn a new program here!), the categories disappear, which is
not my intent, and I immediately have to right-click on the TaskPad title,
choose "Customize Current View...", observe that the "Group By..." button now
displays "none", click on it, and re-do the "Group by..." Categories routine
(during which there is much grinding and gnashing of teeth!).

In version 2000, this was not a problem. In 2003, it is.

Question: Is there somehow/somewhere I can get this to work like in version
2000? Somewhere in Options? Should I be setting up a custom view somewhere
instead of changing the "Customize Current View..."? How about a macro or VBA?

Please help. This option is very important to me.

Thanks,
Dave (Eastern Canada)

This is one of my unfavourite things about 2003 - Sorting a column actually
Groups By it. Even though the mouse will say Sort By column name as you
click it. Erg - that's not English.

You'll just have to stop clicking the column header ;)

Hi Judy:

Thanks for the reply. Further to my writing the initial post, I have found
that, if I accidentally click on the TaskPad field name and destroy my
category Grouping, a quicker way to set it back up again is to right-click on
TaskPad, then choose "Arrange By ->" followed by "Categories". This makes the
Categories re-appear and makes me happy again.

However, I teach these techniques to clients of mine, and I'd like to have a
more stable solution. I'd like to record a macro to record the above
keystrokes, but Outlook doesn't seem to have a recorder like in Excel. (I
searched for a solution in VBA Help but became intimidated!)

Does anyone out there know the VBA commands to create this macro or
procedure in VBA, please? Another VBA procedure (or second line) could be the
equivalent of "right-click on a category name in the TaskPad grouping"
followed by "Collapse All Groups". I could add and design a button to my
advanced toolbar, and I'd have a one-click quick solution.

Even better, is there a VBA procedure to set a flag or something to get the
TaskPad to behave like it does in version 2000. Now, THAT would be a solution!

Cheers, and thanks for your help,
Dave (Eastern Canada)

Hi Dave

I'm a trainer - not a programmer - try the Program_vba newsgroup.
