Tasks, hours and resources view

I'm fairly new to Project and I'm trying to get it to display a view that is
commonly used for setting up or estimating projects. What I want to see is a
view with tasks on one axis, resource names on the other and then allocation
of hours to each task as the table data. For example:

Bob Jane Alice ...
Task 1 10h 10h
Task 2 5h 5h
Task 3 2h 10h 10h
....

Can I do this?

Hi,

Sorry, Project does not do this View. The closest is either the task or
Resource Usage Views. You could create exactly that format in Excel using a
VBA macro.

Thanks Rod.

I've recorded macros for Excel lots of times. How would I do the same for
Project to Excel?

PS - this view would be very useful for entering data. So if this isn't
available, is there another way to go "Let's see, task 4, that would take 5
hours of bob's time, 2 hours of Alice's" etc. without using the split screen
and entering via the form? This is time consuming as it takes a while to
select the resource that you want from the list.

Yes,

Read help and make sure all tasks are NOT effort driven
In a Gantt chart select a task
with the Assign Resources dialog open (Alt+F10 or click toolbar icon) enter
hours of work in units column of dialog.
EG for 5 hours enter 5h - 5 on its own will be 5%

Repeat as required by clicking on Tasks then entering hours.
