Tasks "on hold"

Waht is the best way to indicate that a task is "on-
hold." Often customer's need to obtain approval,
additional funding etc such that a task does not get
completed as planned. When this happens I don't want to
loose the task, but want to follow it as a reminder.

Try this

1. View | Gantt
2. RightMouseButton on the bar for the task that is being delayed and
click on Split task
3. Place a split in the task starting when the task was delayed and drag
it out for the length you guess the delay will take.

This will now appear as a split task in the Gantt display just like any
other split task.

4. Insert Flag1
5. For this task (and any others that are the same kind of delayed tasks)
set flag1 to Yes.

Now comes the magic (nothing up my sleeve)

6. Format | Bar Styles ...
7. There is a grid with the first line labelled Task and the next
labelled Split. Click on the line labelled Split and click on the Insert
Row button.
8. Fill in the fields in the following manner:
Name: "Special Delay"
Appearance: I choose a crosshatch pattern and the colour red.
Show for ... tasks: Normal,split,flag1
9. Click on OK.

You'll now see the delay highlighted on your Gantt chart. If the delay
gets longer simply drag out the delayed portion of the task to reflect the
delay. If it turns out to be shorter then drag it back.
