Tasks with an actual start date but no %age done do not publish

We set a task as started by entering an actual start date as today's date,
but do not enter an work done as it has just been started. However when we
publish that task to the server, in web access it does not show the actual
start date.

However if we enter an actual start date and set the %age to even 1% and
publish it. Web access shows the actual start date and 1% done correctly.

Is this by design or a bug? I mean Proj Pro let's you set and actual start
date with any work done. So I would have though web access would show that.

Without any actuals an assignment has yet to start, so there is no Actual
Start date and it does not make sense to add an actual start date without any
actual work or costs.

This is very much by design.

Paul,
I understand what you are saying. We use Project in a slightly different
way. We do not have a need to report work done on an hour by hour or even day
by day basis. All we aks the teammember s to do is report when they start a
task and when they plan to finish. If they are runnng late we ask them to
report a new planned finish date. Then when the tesk is complete, they should
add the actual finish date. We have weekly project meetings where the project
manager ensure that the overall project is on time and they can discuss if a
member has changed the planned finish date.

So what we want the member sto do is simply report the actual start date on
teh day they start. We do noy understand why Porj Prof and PWA let's you set
an actual start date without any work being set but they will not communicat
ethat to each other.

I guess we will have to tell them to enter the actaul start date with 1 day
work done. We would rather the team mebers did not even have access to the
work done fields - only dates.
