If "i.e." is entered in an email correctly, spell checker will focus on the
'i.' and suggest a to change to "i.e." which, if accepted, ends up as
"i.e..e." in the sent mail. If it is typed "ie" (incorrectly), spell checker
will suggest the correct versioin and fix it properly. It would be nice if
you wrote a bit of code to allow checker to recognize "i.e." as correct.
Pretty picky, eh?
