team messaging in MS Project 2003

I have previously used team messaging in MS Project 2000 to allocate tasks
and records progress from resources via e-mail and web, what is the
equivalent in MS Project 2003 and does anybody have an opininion on how
useful it is?

I am mainly wisheing to record actual work against taks and have this
automatically updated in the project plan.

I assume you are referring to the workgroup feature of MS Project.
MS dropped this in 2003 as they want people to purchase Project Server which
has this functionality.
I believe you can still download it from the MS web site but with the
provision that it is completely unsupported by MS.
