Technology Guarantee

I saw this brought up through searching the old Google
archives about it. However, there was no final answer.
The question is, "What is Microsoft's position on the
Retail Technology Guarantee from an Office product bought
off of Ebay?" Is there a way they accept a date on which
you bought the product though there are generally no dates
given.

If no one knows, who at Microsoft do I contact about it?

Hi Lee,

You'll need to fulfill the proof of purchase
requirements specified in the files on
http://microsoft.com/office/howtobuy/techguarantee.mspx

If it's an OEM edition it's not eligible for
the Office System 2003 technology guarantee.

Yeah, I had read that, about not OEM. Believe me, it's
not OEM, so that requirement is not one about which I am
worried. The one that I need clarification on is
the "dated sales receipt" - the reason I ask is that many
online sellers/retailers only use e-mail and I wanted to
see if this counted, or whether an actual invoice is
needed.

Hi Lee,

A credit card receipt, or other form of 'paid' invoice
document would probably do. Ask the vendor to provide
one with the software perhaps.

Quite a few of the MS Office XP copies sold through
online sites seem to be OEM or 'fulfillment' (volume
license) copies, which can't be applied against the
technology guarantee, so it's a good thing that you
did check on that aspect :)

Well, buying off Ebay worked. I sent in the form and
relevant information (plus the check for shipping and
handling). Less than a week later, I got an e-mail saying
that my copy of Microsoft Office XP Pro has shipped.

Thank you to everyone for their help.
