Telephone number format?

I have set the telephone number format to: (123)445-7890, but when I enter a telephone number and save a contact, it does not format the number in this manner. Shouldn't it?

manner. Shouldn't it?

When I type in 1234457890, it formats it as (123) 456-7890. You need to
enter tab after typing the number to make it format.
