Temp Files

E

Eric

All,

I created a transform file that is very basic and I am installing Office
through a batch file. My problem is consistent with word. When a user open
a file, it creates tons of temp files over time when they are editing the
document. Anyone got any ideas why this is happening? If I open a doc from
an email attachment, I get an error message that the file is read only. THis
is Office Enterprise - any help?

Hi Eric,

Word uses a lot of temp files, it's basically how it works :)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/211632

If the file/folder permissions don't allow Word and the user to remove these, or if you have the temp variable set to a mapped or
removable location or if there is a crash, Word won't go back and clean up after itself, but the lock files will give you a read
only state on files.

Opening doc files from emails without first saving them to the hard drive isn't recommended (you can end up with lost/corrupted
documents when the browser cache is cleared if they're edited from email).

In using Word in Office 2007 with removable or network locations turn on the setting in
Office Button=>Word Options=>Advanced=>Save
for

"[x] Copy remotely stored files onto your comptuer, and update the remote file when saving"
