Is it possible to create a letterhead or pleading template format and then
turn that particular template into a macro and then put that macro onto my
tool bar? I have had no success in trying to do this so I must be missing a
step somewhere. Thanks.

Umm a MACRO performs operations - a TEMPLATE is formatting. You can't turn
format into operations.
What EXACTLY are you trying to acheive?

<sigh> How is a QUESTION a SUGGESTION?

I wrote the following steps for a friend who needed very details instructions
on how I placed an icon on my toolbar to automatically open my Letterhead
Template as a new letterhead document. Hope they are helpful to you as well.

To record the Macro:
1. WORD 2003, New Document.

2. Double-click on (greyed out) REC on Status Bar at bottom to open the
Record Macro window.

3. Type in MacroName with NO spaces, eg: LHead, Store Marco in: All
Documents (normal.dot). Type a Description eg: Company Letter Head. Click OK
to close this window.

4. The floating Macro Toolbar opens with two icons (Stop Recording and Pause
Recording). Don’t click on either one yet.

5. Start performing the steps to be recorded as follows: File/New, on right
panel under Templates Section, choose “On My Computerâ€. This opens the
Templates window, select the relevant letterhead template, check “Create New
Documentâ€, click OK.

6. A new letterhead document opens. On your floating Macro Toolbar, click
Stop Recording. Close down the letterhead document you opened.

To put this Macro (icon) on your toolbar:
7. View-Toolbars-Customize. In the Customize window, bring the Commands tab
forward.

8. Under Categories section, scroll to find and click on Macros. Your new
macro will be listed, eg. Normal.NewMacros.LHead.

9. Drag its icon up to your toolbar.

10. While still in the Customize window, click Modify Selection button. In
the slideup list, next to Name, you are able to edit the text on your icon to
something shorter.

11. Finally close down the Customize window. Try it out by clicking on your
new LHead icon.
