Template bullet style changes when applied to existing document

I am building a Word template with set styles to replace an old template my team is using. If I create a new document with the replacement template, everything is fine. If I use the developer tab to attach a new template to an existing document that uses the old styles, however, the bullet style I had set in the replacement template breaks and goes from having a bullet point to having no bullet point.

This is my bullet style. Is it incorrectly built, or do I have another issue?

Update: I realized it's because I had not linked the styles to a multi-level list style. I've fixed that, but now my old style is not converting correctly.
