Template file opens twice?

MTD

Whenever I open a template file directly from Explorer or a desktop shortcut,
it opens two files in Project - the template and a copy of the template. If
Project is already open before I click on the template shortcut, it only
opens once. Any idea how to fix this? Thanks.

Hello MTD,

I'm sorry, I can't duplicate what you report. Finding the template file in
explorer and double-clicking creates a new file based upon the template, but
does not open the template.

What version (include Service Pack) of project are you using and what
operating system?

Thanks, Julie. I'm using Project 2007 SP1 MSO; Windows XP Pro Version 2002,
SP2.

Still haven't found a fix. If Project is NOT open when I click on a shortcut
or link from Explorer, the template opens twice. If Project IS already open,
it only opens once.

Thanks! - MTD

Hi MTD,

Sorry for the delay in replying. Thanks for the information that you
are using Project 2007. In testing with 2007 -- I see the exact same
thing. Navigating to the template in
C:\Documents and Settings\Julie\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
and double clicking on the template file creates two project files
based on that template. I do not have the template actually opened
however, just two files based on the template. If I save either
file -- it shows the Save As dialog box and will not overwrite the
template file.

So, it is different than opening project and then creating a new file
based on the template and it is different that how it works in Project
2003. But, at least we know it's not "just you" :)

Sorry, I don't know of any fix other than to suggest opening Project
first and then creating the file based on the template.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
