template folder vs. task pane

how do I change the option in word 2002 so that the
document template folder comes up when I choose "new" from
the file drop-down. Right now, the task pane appears on
the right side, forcing me to choose another before I can
get the template folder to appear. In Office 97, the
template folder appeared right away.

The KB "WD2002: New Dialog Box Is Missing When You Click New on the File
Menu" at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=282111 describes some rather
awkward workarounds for this. More satisfactory is just to drag the
FileNewDialog command (from All Commands) to a menu or toolbar.
