Template Help

Hi,

I just installed Visio 2003. I was using an older version.

1. How do I stop the software from opening up a window
called Template Help on the right side every time I open
the software?

2. I have read through the documentation and can't seem to
find an answer to this. I have spent countless hours
creating shapes for the old version of visio. I want to
copy the custom shapes to the current shape stencils that
came with the software, not to a Favorites stencil. I
can't seem to find the stencil files either. I searched
for Instrument.vss fro example.

Thanks for your help!

1) Go to Help > Customer Feedback Options. Then click on the Online Content
category and uncheck the Template Help setting. It would have been nice for
a box right in the window, huh?

2) Generally, Microsoft recommends that you customize your own stencil
rather than modify one of the shipping stencils. Your changes will be wiped
out if a Detect & Repair is ever performed on the software. Also they could
be wiped out by a service pack. You can also customize a template to
automatically load your stencil. However, you can find the Microsoft
stencils under Program Files\Microsoft Office\Visio11\1033 - or a similar
number if you are outside the US. The files are now stored using 8.3
filenames rather than the full stencil title.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your help! I agree a button on the Template
Help header would be much better.

I am sorry to see that while the ability to add my icons
to an as shipped stencil is offered it is not available (
greyed out). I can see Microsoft's idea about being able
to update, however , it seems to be a simple matter to see
if the size of the stencils has changed and then leave
both there vs just destroying my customization. Obviously
Microsoft doesn't seem to care about having customized
icons grouped with similar ones and feels that having them
in a Favorites sencil is acceptable. The loss in time
looking for the appropriate icon among multiple folders
makes me start to look at other software.

.
Hi I have the same problem with the shape search window -
I turned off the online content and everytime I open up
Visio 2003 document [from the windows explorer window -- -
- the search for shapes window opens under the stencil
window. This also happens when I just open Visio and
select new document.

How can I turn this off.

Thanks
Kelly
