When using Task Pane (General Templates) to display templates, several
template folders tabs are displayed showing templates stored in
ProgramFiles\Microsoft\Office10\Template\1033. How are the folder tabs
displayed controlled? Can I change the displayed tabs for these templates
installed with Office? ( I have added templates in my user space and the
additional templates from Program Files cause confusion. I'd like to lump
all the ore-installed templates under a separate tab.). Thanks.

The only thing you can do with the installed templates (the ones that ship
with Word) is to uninstall them. You can't change the tabs or the
arrangement of the templates on the tabs. You can add your own templates to
the built-in tabs by creating subfolders of the user templates folder named
exactly the same as the tab labels. What is more satisfactory in a situation
such as yours is to copy whichever of the installed templates you actually
use to folders in your user templates folder, then uninstall them. This will
get rid of all the tabs except General and any others you have created. You
can, if you like, create a single folder for all the installed templates
(Microsoft Templates, for example) and copy them all there before
uninstalling.
