Template Not Loading that is in the Startup Folder

I searched for this question and didn't find it - I'm hopng I'm just
being really dumb..

I have several machines (about 100) both Macs (office 2004 running OSX)
and PCs (windows XP running Office 2003)

I have a template that is going to be put on all these machines...

There is a single instance of word running on all machines, and only
one start up folder.

In some cases... the template gets copied into Startup - Word launches
and I have the tool bar and Macros I expect to see.

In other cases - this is my frustration - all machines have been built
from the same build - but other machines the tempate (same file as
above that did work) gets copied into Startup and does not load when
word launches.

I can go to templates and add-ins and get the template there and in
some cases it's fine - in other more frustrating cases - once word
closes and reopens the connection to that template is gone and it has
to be rechecked.

What causes word (mac and pc) to sometimes ignore the startup folder -
What simple thing am I missing?

To clarify - you have a template that is located in the Word startup folder
as defined at tools > options > file locations > startup and that you have
macro security set to medium and to trust installed templates and add-ins,
and the template in that folder appears in tools > templates and add-ins,
but is unchecked?

If that is the case you can force it checked with the following line in an
autoexec macro in normal.dot

AddIns("C:\path\templatename.dot").Installed = True

But before that I would look at what your existing startup macros and addins
are doing. You will find a little background for controlling addins at
