Template Page Setup Problem ?

P

PCooley

I have created a simple business letter template.

I have put a letterhead into a header of page 1.
My problem is I would like to have the letterhead only
appear on the 1st page.

I tried a section break (to have no letterhead in the
next section) .... but when I type in the text of a
letter, it pushes the section break down and I end up
with the letterhead appearing on page 2, etc.

Any Ideas would be Greatly Appreciated.
Thanks, P Cooley

Hi P Cooley,

You don't need the Section Break. Set up any header that you want to appear
on the second and the following pages, and then on the Headers and Footers
toolbar, click on the Page Setup button (it looks like an open book) and
then go to the Layout tab and check the Different first page box under the
Headers and Footers section of the dialog. then click on OK. You will now
see at the top of the page a Header pane labelled First Page Header. Create
the header that you want to appear on the first page in that pane. If your
document runs to a second page, the header that you created for the second
and following pages will appear on those pages.

Note that there is no need however for those pages to be present in the
template itself.

Hi P Cooley

Go to the File menu and select page Setup. On the Layout tab, chack the
"Different first page" box.

Now you have two headers, one for the forst page, and one for the other
pages.

Thanks to Doug and Jonathan for your quick solution!
That does get me going.
But also, I am looking for a larger top margin on page 1
(to get below the letterhead) than on page 2. I think
that was why I was trying to use 2 Sections. Is there a
way to also have a diferent margin on page 1, than on the
rest of the template?

Thanks again,
Phil Cooley

Hi Phil,

The text in the header will force the text on page one down the page. The
should be no need to vary the margins.
