template styles

When I open up a template that I made, all the styles are
perfect, but if I open a document and apply the template
to it by clicking Tools, Templates and Add-Ins, and
Attach the template, I don't have the correct styles. I
have to then go into Organizer and open and copy the
styles from that template to the document. Is that the
way it is supposed to be?

1) When you attach your template, do you check the box to update styles?
(You want to be doing this, and then reopening the dialog at a later point
and unchecking that box.)

2) If your answer to (1) is yes, try Ctrl-A to select your document and
press Ctrl-Q and Ctrl-Spacebar to reset your document back to paragraph
style formatting. This will remove all direct formatting (and character
style formatting).

3) You could create a new document, based on your template, press the enter
key twice, and then paste the contents of your old document into the new
one. Delete the first paragraph marks. Save your old document, then save
your new one using the same name if you want.
