Template submission error

S

sat

When I was trying to submit an EXCEL 2007 template the submission didn't go
through and the error reporting said it might be any one of the following
problems (the usual list I guess)
- non-Access active content such as macros, embedded objects, linked
images, ActiveX controls
[my situation] : i dont have macros and it is saved in non-macro (.xltx)
format. No linked images, no ActiveX controls BUT I DO HAVE a few Images! Are
they termed as embedded Objects???
- template has bad title, display name, category or description
[my situation] : Have normal usage I guess :-( How can I find out if
something is wrong here!
- the template is missing an Access preview image
[my situation] : Not applicable since it is Excel template
- not for one of the following 2007 Microsoft office programs (usual office
list)
[my situation] : Not applicable since it is Excel 2007 template

How can I troubleshoot? Trying various combinations is one thing, but is
there a straightforward approach?

Also - a few of my sheets are protected! Is that the culprit???

Echo S

How did you insert the pictures? If it was Insert | Picture | From File,
then they're not embedded objects. If you dragged (from your file folder)
and dropped (into Excel), then yes, it's an embedded object.

I don't know about protected sheets, but I'll try to find out.

Try unprotecting them and uploading the template -- if it works, you'll have
the answer. :)

Also, the template server was having issues the past couple of weeks. It may
still be. I'll see if I can get an update.

Hi Echo!

I did NOT insert through Insert | Picture | From File, I would have done a
copy-paste :) so from what you say it seems like, that would be taken as
embedded objects ?
Try unprotecting them and uploading the template -- if it works, you'll have
the answer. :)
Uhhh.. so this adds to the already big list of possible errors, eh!! :)

Would be great to hear any update from you regarding the above or the
protected sheets...!

Meanwhile I will try the insert | picture route too... :)

Yes, copy/paste can be an embedded object. It depends on what you're copying
from. At least in PPT it works that way; I'm not 100% sure about Excel,
although I'd bet it's the same.

Uhffff!! At last... at lasssst it worked!!

After trying out all sorts of combinations for over 3 hours! found the
"culprits" - There were 2 of them
1. Website link that was given in one of the cells
2. WorkBOOK protection (WorkSHEET protection did not create issues here!)

Moral of the Story : You cannot protect the workbook in the template that
you submit here :)

Thanks Echo for all the info!

No probs! Microsoft should probably update their documentation with some of
these specifics!

Anyway, since it worked now, "all is well that ends well" ;-)

Hopefully there will be no other hurdles before it gets published!!
