Template Use on Website

I am putting together a website and I found a couple templates on here that
would be really useful for my visitors to have access to but I wanted to
check first to see if there were any distribution guidelines for these
templates prior to making 2 or 3 of them available on my site.

Initially I thought I would change the template substantially but after
looking there are really very few things I will need to change to fit what I
need them to do. Does anyone know if I can use these templates on my site as
is or if they need to be changed substantially in order to use them for this
purpose?

Thanks for the help!

Thanks Mary- I am still a little unclear about the templates in particular
since the page you directed me to seems to reference Microsoft software in
general. I guess my question is still whether these templates are part of
the open forum content or copyrighted by Microsoft similar to a software
program. I am not a lawyer but I copied one section below that may or may
not apply to this.

At the end of the day I can re-create any of the templates I want to use as
they are simple Excel docs but I was hoping to use them as is since they were
nicely done. If anyone has a short answer as to whether this is allowed or
not I would appreciate knowing so as to remain on the good side of the
Microsoft machine.

"Posting content.

You understand that Microsoft does not control or endorse the content that
you and others post or provide on the service. Microsoft doesn’t claim
ownership of content that you and others post or provide. By posting or
providing content you grant to Microsoft and the public (for content posted
on public areas of the service), or those members of the public to which you
have granted access (for content posted on private areas of the service),
free, unlimited worldwide and perpetual permission to
use, modify, copy, distribute, and display the content in connection with
the service, and
publish your name with the content.
You also give the public, or those members of the public to which you have
granted access, permission to grant these rights to others. You represent and
warrant that you have all the rights necessary for you to grant the rights in
this section and that the use and publication of the content does not breach
any law. Microsoft will not pay you for content you post on public areas of
the service. This section only applies to legally permissible content and
only to the extent that use and publishing of the legally permissible content
does not breach the law."

What you quoted is referring to templates you upload to Office Online for
other users to have access to.

I think there's something in there that says you can't sell MS content.
Frankly, I would probably just include a link to the templates in question
and let your visitors get them directly from the MS site.

Thanks Echo- I am not going to sell anything on the site I am writing an
article on budgeting and I want to have a budget template for my visitors to
be able to download from the site free to use.

I would just link to it.

I'm not a lawyer, so I'm really not qualified to interpret the license
agreement for the MS content. If you're in doubt after drawing your own
conclusions, you may want to have a lawyer review the verbiage.
