Template Workbook for 1900 Date Default

The date system default set to 1904 is driving me NUTS!!! I am the
sole Mac user in an office of 150 Dells, and I constantly have to deal
with this annoyingly different date system between the Mac and PC
versions of Excel. (I wonder why they did that differently in the 2
versions). Well, I figured out how to change back and forth between
them under prefernces, but I need to have a new spreadsheet deafult to
having the 1904 date system unchecked, and I can't seem to make it
work.

I have tried to save a template called 'workbook' with the 1904 date
unchecked, and I have put it in the specified place for these template
workbooks (office->startup->excel), but everytime that I create a new
workbook, I still get that darn 1904 date system. Why isn't this
working? Is there some other box or item that I am supposed to check
or do, besides saving the template workbook with it unchecked in this
locations?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Robert

Now I am really baffled, because I tried it on my home computer and it
worked fine, but at work, no dice. What gives? Is it possible that my
work computer is grabbing the default template from a different place
or is set to use it diffrently?

Weird.....

I couldn't say why your attempt doesn't give the expected results (in fact
it should). In case you're interested, there's an .xla utility that can
automatically deal with it for you and set (or not) the date format to your
will, correcting the dates if needed.

The translation is not too good, but the .xla works fine (on Windows too, if
needed). I don't know if that can help you out, but I guess it's worth a
try. You can download it from here:

XL's date format is set by the first workbook opened during the session.
If you've got other files in your startup directory at work, that may be
causing the difference.

Also check the Preferences/General Alternate startup file location
setting - if that's set to a different folder at work, that's where your
template file should be stored.
