templates and view

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)

When I click on a new document, it appears sideways, i.e. horizontal, and I then have to click on view and then on normal. Then the doc becomes vertical. Did I change the normal template and if so how do I fix? I can't call up this users/users/library/microsoft/template thing that was suggested somewhere.

This is affecting editing using track changes. when I forward my edited docs to others, the way track changes shows up is odd.

Go to Format> Document, click the Page Setup button & select Portrait, then
click OK. That returns you to the Document dialog ‹ click the Default
button, acknowledge Yes to the confirmation then OK to close the Document
dialog. New documents then should be created in Portrait orientation.
