Templates in ON 2007 question

Hi,

I tried using templates in ON 2003 but did not see any real benefit in my
application.

What I'd like to do is have templates where I can have spaces for Names, phone
numbers and companies etc so when I transcribe the important info from an
ansaphone message I can be reminded of the important notes to take. What'd be
_really_ useful would be some way of making the areas within a page template to
be "live". What I mean by "live" is, for example, if I fill in a name and phone
number in the appropriate places in a template there would be a way of causing
ON to, say, create a Contact from the info with the phone number filled in from
the phone number field in the template and the name field from the template name
field etc. Even better would be some way to hint to the recogniser that a phone
number field in a template should only contain numerics so aiding transcription.

Can anyone tell me whether there are any facilities like this in the templates
in ON 2007 ?

Thanks,

Mike Davies

That's a "no" is it ?

Sort of, yes. What is being asked for is field validation which is not
something OneNote has the capability to do. Excel or Access can do that.
OneNote can initiate an Outlook contact but it's somewhat primitive.

The key issue here is that OneNote is not a structured database. It may be
possible to create a PowerToy that would have some capability to put data in
specific fields in an Outlook item but out of the box OneNote is going to
fall somewhat short of that.

Hi Ben, thanks for your reply. Is there a description anywhere of how to
create ON PowerToys (and/or ON Stationary for that matter)? I have a copy of VS
2003 and would quite like to play around with any APIs for this kind of thing.

FYI, there are some phone-message templates available for download
from the Microsoft Office web site (http://office.microsoft.com).
